Virgin Atlantic Launches the First Airline App in ChatGPT

Virgin Atlantic is the first airline in the world to launch an app within ChatGPT, giving travelers a new way to explore destinations and travel options through AI-powered search.

In this episode of The Modern Customer Podcast, Chief Customer Officer Juha Jaervinen explains how Virgin Atlantic is using AI to improve travel discovery while human service continues to set the brand apart.

The airline’s AI Concierge has increased self-service and delivered more relevant content and offers. Its app within ChatGPT brings that strategy into conversational travel, helping customers discover options through travel advice. Virgin Atlantic is also exploring how AI could give frontline employees better customer insights.

The conversation goes beyond technology. Jaervinen discusses growing demand for premium leisure travel as customers seek more comfort, space, calm, and control. He also explains why cabin crews are empowered to show their personalities, read each situation, and adapt service to individual travelers.

Through Flying Club and Virgin Red, Virgin Atlantic aims to deepen customer loyalty and encourage travelers to experience more of the Virgin family, including Virgin Hotels and Virgin Voyages.
